People brand me with an easygoing personality, a hardworking spirit, a positive attitude, and a quick learner. I dream of becoming an outstanding professional in the investment management field.
In 2008, I broke up my boyfriend who I thought I would get married to. At that moment, I flashed out an idea to study abroad and pursue a different future.Unlike the majority who hired an agent for advice in how to apply for schools, majors, and scholarships in the United States, I did them all by myself. Through this process, I learned more to be independent and decisive. Consequently, I was accepted by the Johns Hopkins University.
Life in the United States was much tougher than I had expected. I couldn't understand people’s English well at the beginning and made many jokes; I was discriminated by some classmates and professors; I was robbed on the street; my telephone account was stolen; I walked back home at 2am in one of the most dangerous cities, Baltimore, in order to study more in the library; I had to transfer school within only one month in a completely strange country to reduce financial pressure for my family; I was not allowed to start my study in my new school, UT Dallas, because my vaccine had expired; For this reason, I negotiated with 10+ departments on the first day I arrived at the new school; I was sent to the emergency room for a serious bacterial infection and owed a great amount of debt to the hospital; to pay the debt, I found a part-time job working 13 hours a day only for $30.
However, I NEVER give up. Because of my determination, I have also experienced many success here. I made a dare to debate with native experienced debaters and won; I encouraged myself to compete with 50+ candidates for the analyst position at the Johns Hopkins Equity Analyst Team and was finally hired; I played the protagonist in a Sikh movie competition and was selected into top 5; I initiated an investment team to hone my leadership skills and presentation skills; I had many adventurous road trips with locals to deeply understand American culture and get to know more beauty in this country; I furthered my graduate school education while preparing for the CFA, FRM, and MS Excel Specialist exams. At the same time, I took on a part-time job and attended several volunteering events to get myself closer to my dream of becoming a well-developed investment analyst in a prestigious company.
Frankly speaking, I am the only child in my family and never left my hometown in my first 22 years. Suddenly studying and living alone in a strange country is indeed a big challenge for me, but I am proud that I did not hold within my own racial group; instead, I hopped into many diverse groups and have learned global culture, economy, and politics. I am proud I never gave up whenever I came across those difficulties. I am proud I am brave to try something others may not dare. I am proud I was given more challenges and trouble that are GREAT teachers in my life to make me stronger and tougher. If you think I am a good person and would like to see how much more I could contribute my passion to my work, please feel free to contact me by [email protected].
